The change we’re making: Our impact 2023/24

We’re excited to publish the Make a Change impact report for 2023/24, alongside a briefing paper which sets out the issues the sector is facing and how the Make a Change model provides solutions and fills gaps in provision.

It’s been an eventful year in the Make a Change project, with key milestones reached, such as the launch of Make a Change Newcastle and the delivery of our first national webinar. We’re pleased to share this latest report, which showcases our success in furthering our mission to offer people using harmful and abusive behaviour in relationships the chance to make positive changes at the earliest point possible.

Uptake of the programme continues to grow, with a 42% increase in behaviour change programme participants and a 38% increase in survivors supported. Participants on the behaviour change programme saw increases across all the outcomes that we measure, including skills such as accountability and management of emotions. Crucially, we also saw positive changes for survivors, who reported improvements in wellbeing measures such as confidence and feeling good about themselves. The central Make a Change team continue to support delivery partners, with Regional Practice Leads undertaking exciting development work as well as providing practical support.

Workforce development and wider community outreach continue to be an important part of the model’s growth, raising awareness of the support available and generating referrals. Almost 200 professionals attended our Recognise, Respond and Refer training from 76 different organisations, and for 92% of them it was their first training on working with perpetrators of domestic abuse.

Alongside the impact report, we are also publishing a briefing paper to provide context of the wider landscape, explaining some of the challenges we face in tackling domestic abuse and the important part Make a Change can play in implementing the solutions. There is a full version which draws on existing policies and research and a summary version.

Thanks to all our colleagues, partners and stakeholders who have contributed to this successful year for Make a Change. Read our impact report and briefing paper to learn more about the difference it has made.
